Tesla Model Y Trunk. Its similar but larger than Model 3

Tesla Model Y trunk

It shares much in common with the Model 3 but puts it all into an extra-practical Vehicle shape. It has distinct advantages, but ultimately, the Model Y is a strong illustration of what an electric vehicle can and should be. In this article, we will explore Tesla Model Y Trunk and comparison with Tesla model 3.

A wide hatch, rather than a conventional trunk, is standard on the Model Y. We compiled various pictures and evaluations from Tesla users into this gallery, by which we concluded that the small electric Vehicle Tesla Model Y is known for its enormous storage capacity.

The Model Y has enough room for 66 cubic feet of baggage. That’s more than four times as much space as a Tesla Model 3 can hold for luggage. However, this cargo space is only possible with the third-row seats folded down or completely absent.

Being a hatchback, the Model Y’s cargo entrance is more significant than the Model 3, making loading and unloading baggage easier. Compared to the 22.9 cubic feet of the Tesla Model 3, the Model Y’s highest luggage space is 76 cubic feet. The third-row chairs in this Model are either unfit or can be folded flat.

Why Should Cargo Space be Considered?

Once you start packing for a trip, you may find that there isn’t enough room in the EV cargo room, and ultimately you’ll have to leave some things behind.

At that point, you will realize the significance of cargo space. However, it would be essential to consider this while you think about buying a vehicle.

There are currently no hatchback models available from Tesla. The Model 3, their best-selling vehicle, does not have a door but a traditional trunk. Hatchbacks are popular because they make it easy to transport oversized cargo. One illustration of a currently available hatchback is the Tesla Model Y car.

The Model 3’s storage space is adequate for a luxury electric vehicle but is not the best in its class.

Tesla Model Y Trunk Cover

The Original Equipment Manufacturer Luggage Cover is standard equipment for all new Model Ys. Any Model Y shipped will come with the case, and all Model Ys will be qualified for a free upgrade.

You can open the trunk’s interior storage space by raising the rope. The Model Y luggage cover can be folded forward or removed.

Tesla Model Y Cargo Space With Seats Down

It’s around 68 cubic feet.

The Model Y has enough space to transport seven people and their luggage. The storage area is ample in the 5-seat configurations but is diminished if you add the extra third row.

The second-row seats collapse flat individually, providing flexible storage for equipment, furnishings, bags, and other commuters’ possessions. When the rear seats are collapsed, there is a maximum luggage volume of 68 cubic feet, and there is a tiny “frunk” in the front in the place of the engine.

The middle passenger back can be pulled forward separately if the Model Y’s user needs to transport things too lengthy to fit in the front or the trunk.

Tesla Model Y Trunk Not Opening

Around a month or two ago, while she was driving my Model S, my wife experienced a similar incident. The MCU displayed that the trunk was open, but upon inspection, it was closed and would not open for her despite attempts to use the key, trunk button, etc.

She was in the area of a repair center, so I suggested that she go in and see if they could help. The liftgate mechanism and lock had to be replaced. This process also necessitated making perforations in the liftgate molding, necessitating its replacement. Everything is guaranteed to work as advertised.

Bruce.

Tesla support claims that the 2022.16 software upgrade will resolve the trunk problem caused by a software bug.

How to reset Model Y trunk: The tesla Model Y trunk can be restarted by pressing the switch underneath the liftgate and holding it down for three seconds, at which point a validation beep will sound.

How to manually open Model Y trunk: If the Model 3 loses battery power, you can still access the trunk via a lighted mechanical opening inside the EV trunk. Press and keep the lighted button toward the arrow to physically remove the trunk’s lock and open the trunk.

The trunk release lever can also be accessed from the backseat if the car’s power dies. Use the trunk’s access hole to reach the pull lever.

Model Y foot kick trunk sensor: The trunk kick sensor is an excellent upgrade of the Tesla Model Y to enhance the functionality of your car.

To make the trunk sensor operational, kick your foot gently under the rear center of the car.

Where is the tailgate sensor usually located? One of the car keys must be within range of the sensor (about 1 meter or 3 feet) behind the vehicle for the trunk to open. The sensor is situated under the middle of the back fender. This is so that the trunk won’t open accidentally, for example, at a car wash, even if the car is opened.

Its height is 7.5 feet:

Your vehicle’s liftgate has the potential to extend to a height of about 2.3 meters (7.5 feet), though this will vary depending on factors like suspension height and tire choices.

If you need to raise or lower the liftgate’s Opening to facilitate access or to clear overhead obstructions like a garage door or light, here are the instructions to do the same.

  • The trunk must first be opened, and the liftgate must be lowered or raised by hand to the appropriate height.
  • Wait for the approval signal to sound after pressing the button underneath the liftgate and holding it there for three seconds.
  • Close the liftgate and reopen it to double-check that the height is where you want it to be.

Now How to Close the Trunk

It is as simple as is given below:

  • Touch the close button on the touchscreen panel.
  • To open the trunk, press and hold the remote’s “back” command for two seconds.
  • Depress the button situated below the liftgate.

Liftgates have sensors that can detect when they’re shutting on something and will immediately halt and sound a double bell if they do. It can be closed again after the impediment is removed.

Caution: Ensure no obstructions from the powered liftgate before raising or shutting it. If you don’t want the liftgate to hit anyone or anything, you’ll need to keep a close eye on it. Carelessly closing or opening the liftgate may cause severe harm or injury to the objects or people around.

Tesla Model Y Frunk

Tesla Model Y is also equipped with the frunk, also known as the front trunk, with its 4.1 cubic feet of cargo capacity. The Model Y’s cargo capacity ranges from 12.8 to 26.6 to a total of 67.9 cubic feet, depending on how many chairs are in the back.

Frunk can be manually opened and closed, and your front trunk has an automatic liftgate; you can raise and shut it with the push of a button.

  • Open and close the frunk using the official Tesla App
  • Open and close using the key fob, in case you purchased it.
  • Close the front trunk with the stock emergency button.
  • Open and Close with the center console touchscreen panel.

The front trunk is the most recognizable and significant part of an electric car, particularly Model Y, with enough trunk space for several sacks of groceries and passenger belongings. The frunk has become more widespread and practical as the number of and interest in electrified vehicles has increased.

Its utility has increased significantly; today, a frunk can even rival the size of some contemporary suitcases in terms of storage space. Compared to a gas-only vehicle, it’s much more comprehensive and spacious.

Warning: To avoid any damage, press or apply pressure only to areas shown in green because pressing or applying pressure on red areas can cause harm.

  • Never try to close the frunk with one hand because by doing so, all pressure concentration would be on some specific area and may cause damage in the form of a dent.
  • Don’t ever press hardly the front edge of the bonnet because it will create a crease on that part.
  • Never ever drop the hood abruptly.

Caution: Before traveling while you are on Model Y, ensure the hood is firmly fastened in the completely closed position by cautiously attempting to raise the front border of the hood upward. Tesla also takes safety measures for you:

If the front trunk is not closed firmly, a notification appears on the touchpad, and you cannot move the car out of Neutral until the front trunk is safely closed.

How to Manually Open the Model Y Frunk

  • First, open the trunk’s front cover by pressing the cover’s internal release lever,
  • Lift the cover’s upper edge.
  • After being exposed to light, the switch inside illuminates.

Always remember that you only allow people to enter the front trunk.

Tesla Model Y Frunk Size

The trunk of a Tesla Model Y is 27.6 inches in width, 13.8 inches in length, and 12 to 13.8 inches in depth. It’s smaller than Model 3 but is a little deeper. All these readings are obtained from the bottom of the frunk floor.

As you move away from the front fender, the trunk opens up more. The Model 3 and the Model Y come standard with a frunk, giving you access to the storage room on the level with much bigger Vehicles. Compared to the Model 3, the frunk of the Model Y is marginally more prolonged and deeper.

How to Open the Front Trunk (Frunk)

Do one of the following things before pulling the hood open after ensuring the vehicle is in park:

  • Touch the Open icon on the touchscreen panel.
  • Press the remote’s “front trunk” button twice.
  • Tap the app’s “front trunk” option.

Tesla Model Y Trunk Mat

Carpet floor coverings are standard equipment for all Model Ys manufactured by Tesla. The dense, long-lasting layer of the Model Y basic floor mats is pleasant and protective. It’s created by Tesla’s Design Lab and features stain protection as an additional bonus.

Though most EV owners change their standard cloth mats with more high-tech and long-lasting options, it’s estimated that even the standard mats aren’t the greatest at protecting your vehicle’s upholstery and floor.

Tesla Model Y Trunk Dog

Sedans and smaller cars are fine for small puppies, but larger dogs need something roomier. The Model Y’s trunk is more significant than the Model 3, easily accommodating a cage for a medium-sized cat and dog. Extra space in the head means large dogs can settle comfortably at the table with their humans.

Dog crates are manufactured from sturdy yet lightweight plastic, making them simple to transport in and out of the vehicle. It lets you quickly remove the crate from your trunk when you don’t need to transport your canines.

Durable and custom-made for the Tesla Model Y, this plastic component will last for years. So, in a nutshell, we can say that Model Y is more suited for dogs and pets when compared to most SUVs and sedans.
